"I was born on July 4th, 2005 and I met my new parents only 6 weeks later. I was really scared at first but I quickly learned that they loved me!! My mom and dad bought me all kinds of chew toys and bones to play with. I love to be ROUGH with things and I was able to rip apart many of my old toys. It wouldn't take long for some of my favorite toys to go into that tall "white bucket" in the kitchen and I would never see them again. To make matters worse, I wasn't allowed to go into the "white bucket" to get my favorite toys back. Finally my mom made me this toy and it was my all time favorite. I still have it and I love to chew the "nubbies" at the end! It also felt good to chew on the soft fleece when my teeth hurt when I was little."
- Chelsy (woof-woof)
Chelsy's Toys, based in Wheaton, Illinois has introduced a unique, durable, handcrafted dog toy that challenges the smallest breed to the largest. Inspired by Chelsy, her American Pit Bull Terrier, company owner Lisa Freeman realized that she was spending money every week on toys that her dog destroyed in a matter of minutes. The toy design is an improved model of the common, commercially found rope toy, but is made of recycled material that does not fray.
What makes this toy so tough? The patented construction is devised of a knotting system that will withstand pulling and chewing, yet the material used is soft and gentle on teeth and owner's hands! Tug-o-war has always been a favorite game of dog and owner, and new research states that it can also be educational. "You can use the tug as a reward when training obedience cues." According to an article published by the Pit Bull Rescue Central, the tough construction makes it a long-lasting toy, good for your pet, but great for your wallet!
Chelsy was only six-months-old when introduced to the first prototype. Since then, she has been an eager tester and gave her paw of approval on the final model, which is available through specialty dog stores, craft shows, and has a home at www.chelsystoys.com. "Since I was encouraged to go public with my toy, I have received great feedback from my customers which lead to many referrals and now the toys are located in several retail locations." Freeman said. With the help of the website, the toys have already been exposed across the U.S. and she has even received an inquiry from abroad.
About the company: Chelsy's Toys, a woman-owned business, prides itself on its active involvement with several accredited rescue groups and local dog trainers. In fact, it gives a portion of its proceeds to not only Pit Bull groups, but also Dachshund and Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue groups and plans to work with additional animal welfare organizations as it expands. It has also received the approval of Chelsy's veterinarian, Dr. Wallach, of Danada Veterinarian Clinic, who said it works great for teething pets. Since the toys are handcrafted, Freeman can attest that each is one of a kind, and unique... the best dog toy on the planet!
